Brazing Windings and Wire Joints:

brazing windings and wire jointsThe brazing of windings and wire joints is common in the production and repair of motors, generators, transformers and power distribution equipment.

One example, as shown, is the brazing of transformer windings. This is a very common application for induction heating. In the example, approx. 2400 butt joints are being brazed, consisting of copper wire 12.5 mm x 2.5 mm insulated with conductor paper. The insulation paper is wound off about 40 mm and the butt joint is being prepared with an intermediate layer.

During the brazing process the insulated inductor is applied directly to the brazing point and the generator is actuated for 2 to 3 seconds via the switch on the hand held coaxial transformer. The solder is straight and does not need to be filed or reworked. Additionally, the conductors can be heat cleaned with the induction system for the joint preparation.

eldec generator MFG-10 Unit description:
MF-Generator
Eldec Type MFG 10

For the process of brazing windings and wire joints for large transformers, the application of a mobile induction heating unit with a water cooling device is especially useful, since with this unit a quick change of work place is possible. The unit shown here is an Eldec MFG 10 and the according water cooling plant. During the setup for brazing, the coaxial transformer with induction coil is suspended with a counter-balance. For brazing it is led manually to the part to be brazed so that no additional space is required.
